Kokeshi are Japanese dolls from the Tohoku region in Northern Japan. These handmade wooden dolls have a colorful history.
They were traditionally made as guardians of children but later became popular collectors.
After looking at this beautiful dolls the Russians in competitive spirit made their own nesting dolls called Matryoshka Dolls.
In India too we have traditional nesting dolls. Many of us have had these beautiful nesting dolls at some point of our lives.
I remember looking at them and wanting them to buy when we visited Jagannath Puri temple in our childhood days. Pestered parents to get one.
