How to Use: It is best to eat boiled black horse gram in the morning or evening as it can become too heavy for dinner diet. Soak a cup of Black Horse gram overnight. Pressure cook it the next morning until soft and mushy. For the Rasam: process one onion, one tomato, one green chilli, one red chilli, ½ cup coconut, curry leaves, haldi and salt. Sauté this masala in oil in a thick bottom pan until well blended. Now add the boiled gram with its water to the mix. Boil until correct consistency and set aside. Temper this rasam with curry leaves, mustard and Urad dal seeds spluttered in oil in separate pan. Pour over rasam and serve hot. It has a distinct aroma and taste. It can be cooked into different recipes like soups, dal, pancakes, kebabs and chicken.
